The Penn State Blue Band Drum Major is responsible for teaching all marching fundamentals to prospective rookies during their audition process, as well as working with the full band during band camp in August.  In addition, the Drum Major is responsible for all warmup/morale sessions at the start of every rehearsal for the entire season. 

 

The video to the side shows a 40-minute portion of a prospective rookie marching fundamentals session recorded in August 2012, in which the rookies are  taught how to high step for the very first time.
